Air Conditioning energy inspections are commonly known as Air Conditioning Inspections. In some cases clients may refer to Air Con inspections as Air Con assessments or air conditioning assessments,  air con surveys or air conditioning surveys. The methodology used is called TM44 air conditioning and the final product will be a TM44 report. The Air Con report will give all details of the air conditioning energy usage and its compliance with TM44 air conditioning regulations. An Air Conditioning inspection is a vital part of complying with Air Conditioning TM44 legislation. Air Conditioning Energy Assessment has only recently been introduced and are required by organisations throughout the country.

What is an Air Conditioning Inspection (Air Con Inspection)?

An Air Conditioning Energy Inspections (TM44) allows your organisation to comply with European Directive legislation coming into force within the United Kingdom. The air conditioning assessment itself is also being recognised as an excellent tool to help recognise energy and money saving opportunities. The initial cost of the air conditioning energy assessment is often covered in just a few weeks when simple low cost measure are identified and implemented.

The aims of the inspection are to:

   -  Provide building owners/operators with information about system
      performance, and

   - Identify opportunities to reduce your CO2 emissions and save
     energy and money.

The output of the inspection will be a TM44 air conditioning report and TM44 inspection highlighting measures which, if adopted, will have the potential to save energy and money within a reasonable payback period. Air Con Inspection reports will remain valid for five years, after which the air conditioning system will require another TM44 inspection.

Which Air Conditioning Systems require TM44 Air Conditioning  Reports ?

The TM44 regulations do not apply to process cooling systems and are being adopted in two phases. The first phase applies to air conditioning systems with a rated cooling capacity above 250 kW and the second phase for the remaining systems over 12 kW. The cooling capacity of an air conditioning ‘system’ is further defined as “the sum of all individual cooling units under the control of one building owner or operator”. It may therefore include smaller ‘window-box’ and split units which are considered to be part of the ‘system’.

When do Air Con systems need to be inspected ?

   -   First air conditioning inspection of all existing systems over 250
kW cooling capacity completed by 4 January 2009.

   -   First air conditioning inspection of all existing systems over 12
kW completed by 4 January 2011.

   -   New air conditioning systems over 12 kW installed after January
2008 must be inspected within 5 years of being put into service.
